Iodine goes from gas to solid phase immediately. You can illustrate this by heating solid iodine in a beaker, covered with a watch glass. The vapor will hit the watch glass and be unable to escape. As soon as it has all evaporate, put ice in the watch glass. The vapor will solidify and form crystals.
